Major Teams in the NFL

The NFL (National Football League) is an American football league for North America. It is comprised of thirty-two teams playing in a 17 week long season. The teams are equally split into American Football Conference – the AFC- and its counterpart National Football Conference- NFC. It takes pride in being the most prestigious American football league in the World. The league was inaugurated in 1920. Over the years some teams have emerged as major players in the league. Here is a list of those teams.

Green Bay Packers

It is one of the oldest clubs in the league. They have been active since 1921. They are probably the most successful team in the NFL. Most of their success came in the past decade but they have been putting great performances in recent seasons as well. They have accrued a total of 4 Superbowl titles. They have 9 conference titles, 17 division titles and 34 playoffs appearances. They also command a huge fan base.

New England Patriots

The club has been active since 1960. It records the highest number of appearances in the Superbowl finals with 11 appearances. It has managed to win the Superbowl 6 times, a record jointly held with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are the current holders of the Superbowl and have won it thrice in the past five years.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have been active since 1933. They dominated the American football scene in the 1970s. They have a near perfect record in the Superbowls. They managed a record six wins out of eight of their appearances. Though they have not won the Superbowl since 2008, they still remain a major player in the NFL.

The Dallas Cowboys

This team competes in the NFC East division. They are based in Dallas and currently train under Jason Garrett as their coach. They dominated in the 1990s, a time when they won 3 of their 5 Superbowl titles.
